• New champagne label joins other First Class enhancements that will be introduced in coming months
Singapore Airlines (SIA) customers can now enjoy the exquisite taste of Taittinger Comtes de Champagne in First Class from 27 October 2019.
Produced by the prestigious family-owned champagne house Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is produced only in the best years, composed exclusively of Chardonnay grown in five Grand Crus vineyards, and only first press wine (the ‘cuvée’) is used to give it an absolute guarantee of quality. With strict criteria governing its production and a long maturation period of eight to 10 years, the bottles are not produced in large volumes, making it a rare and celebrated wine.
In selecting the champagne, SIA’s Wine Panel, comprising world-renowned wine experts Michael Hill-Smith, Jeannie Cho Lee and Oz Clarke, conducted blind tastings of wines from many of the world’s most famous wine regions, before deciding upon Comtes de Champagne for its exceptional quality and taste.
“Taittinger Comtes de Champagne is a refined, elegant vintage champagne with an impressive minerally finish. Featuring this champagne is part of Singapore Airlines’ commitment to working closely with the best wineries in key regions around the world, such as Taittinger, to offer an increased variety of wines directly from the source,” said Ms Jeannie Cho Lee.
Deputy Managing Director of Taittinger, Mr Clovis Taittinger, said: “We are extremely honoured to accompany Singapore Airlines in their quest of perfection. We put lots of passion to make some of the best wines in the world and hope that all SIA First Class passengers will enjoy their flights with our sophisticated and elegant wines.”
Each year, more than 350,000 bottles of champagne are served on SIA flights. Comtes de Champagne joins two prestige cuvées in First Class, Dom Pérignon and Krug Grand Cuvée, which continue to be well received by customers.
Comtes de Champagne will first be served on flights to Auckland, Beijing, Delhi, Dubai, Melbourne, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney and Tokyo (Haneda) from 27 October 2019 to February 2020, before being rotated to other routes.
The introduction of Comtes de Champagne joins SIA’s other upcoming First Class enhancements. From mid-November 2019, customers can look forward to special edition unisex amenity kits with a new series of the iconic crystal fishes from renowned luxury French crystalmaker Lalique. From 2020, First Class customers can also look forward to an enhanced caviar service that will be expanded to more flights.
“We are excited to launch Comtes de Champagne on SIA flights, and introduce another prestigious label on rotation to increase variety and delight the keen palates of our frequent flyers,” said SIA’s Divisional Vice President Inflight Services and Design, Ms Betty Wong.
“Along with our other refinements to First Class, these enhancements represent our commitment to provide our premium customers with one of the finest air travel experiences in the world.”
