AI is ushering in a new phase of structural growth for the semiconductor industry, with advanced process technologies, heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, and AI computing emerging as key areas of innovation and competition.
Driven by AI infrastructure investment, the global semiconductor market is growing faster than previously expected. SEMI forecasts industry revenue will exceed $1.5 trillion this year and is expected to surpass $2 trillion by 2030. As AI adoption expands, demand for computing and data storage continues to grow, with AI servers serving as a major driver of semiconductor growth. At the same time, quantum computing and quantum communications are moving steadily toward commercialization. Taiwan is also building capabilities in quantum technologies as part of broader efforts to participate in the next generation of computing innovation.

Quantum Computing Opens a New Frontier
Quantum computing and quantum communications are moving rapidly toward commercialization, opening new opportunities across the global semiconductor ecosystem, including Taiwan.
Chii-Dong Chen, Distinguished Research Fellow and Executive Officer, Thematic Center for Quantum Computing, Research Center for Critical Issues, Academia Sinica, said, “The quantum era is taking shape. A Global Ecosystem Advancing Semiconductor
Innovation
Clark Tseng, Senior Director of Market Intelligence, SEMI, said, “AI is reshaping semiconductor growth, driving sustained demand for advanced logic, HBM and DRAM, high-layer-count NAND, testing, and advanced packaging equipment. SEMI forecasts the global semiconductor materials market will reach $92 billion in 2027, with Taiwan accounting for approximately 30%. The SEMICON Taiwan 2026 program brings together the global semiconductor value chain, from equipment and materials to advanced manufacturing, packaging, testing, and AI applications. Kicking off August 31, the program features more than 50 international forums covering key technologies such as heterogeneous integration, HBM, advanced packaging, and testing. The exhibition runs September 2–4 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Halls 1 & 2, with more than 100,000 attendees from Taiwan and around the world expected.
This
year’s program introduces the new
Quantum Technology Zone, Smart
Fab Zone, and Chiplet
Pavilion, focusing on quantum commercialization, intelligent
manufacturing, and AI/HPC applications. The Silicon Startups Zone will also launch its
first invitation-only SEMI Venture Day 2026, connecting
semiconductor startups with global investors to accelerate investment and
partnerships. The Global Pavilion will bring together
participants from 18 countries, marking a new high for the
event. By connecting the global semiconductor
ecosystem across equipment, materials, manufacturing, packaging, testing, and
AI applications, SEMICON Taiwan 2026 will demonstrate how Taiwan’s integrated
