Authentic German Christmas Atmosphere Brought to Taiwan - 2nd German Christmas Market

TAIPEI, Taiwan – The German Trade Office Taipei has brought a German Christmas Market to Taiwan for the second consecutive year. The market, taking place at the Butterfly Hall Front Plaza, Yuanshan Expo Park, from December 10th to 12th, features almost 50 booths, which offer a large variety of traditional German products including authentic food, beverages, and souvenirs. Furthermore, the family-friendly market also features several on-site stage activities such as choir music, singing, storytelling for children, quizzes, live candle making, a model railway show, a boardgame area and meetings with Santa Claus.

The German Christmas Market was officially opened on Friday, December 10th. During the opening ceremony, Mr. Axel Limberg, Chief Representative and Executive Director of the German Trade Office Taipei, stated: “Christmas Markets belong to one of the oldest German Christmas traditions and our goal was to create a market that is as authentic as possible to introduce this magnificent event to the Taiwanese.” Christmas markets originated in the German-speaking part of Europe during the late Middle Ages, now having a history of nearly 600 years.

In his speech, Mr. Limberg continued: “We wanted to keep our traditions alive and promote the cultural exchange between Germany and Taiwan despite living in difficult times where traveling is hardly possible. Christmas is usually also a time where people stick together to overcome difficulties. Therefore, it is great to see that such an event can still be held in Taiwan and that our strong partners—especially the Taipei City government—, our sponsors, and exhibitors made it possible for us to bring this Christmas Market to Taiwan.”

Guests of honor at the opening ceremony were Ambassador Tom Chou, Commissioner for External Affairs, Taipei City Government, and Dr. Jörg Polster, Director General of the German Institute Taipei. The German Christmas Market is organized by the service unit of the German Trade Office Taipei DEinternational Taiwan Ltd. It is brought to you by: Mercedes-Benz Taiwan and Capital Motors, Inc. and supported by Franz Collection, Beurer, China Airlines, Gutenberg Academy, and the Sino-German Cultural and Economic Association.
