TAIPEI, Taiwan – DEinternational Taiwan Ltd., the service unit of the German Trade Office Taipei, has brought the very first German-style Christmas Market to Taiwan. The market is currently taking place at the Flora Plaza, Yuanshan Expo Park from December 25th to December 27th, 2020. The event is sponsored by Audi Volkswagen Taiwan Co., Ltd.; Capital Motors, Inc.; and Vorwerk Taiwan.
Between 30 to 40 booths are introducing traditional German Christmas products to the Taiwanese public. The booths feature hearty foods such as pork knuckle; German-style sausages; crepes; traditional Christmas cookies, roasted almonds, and traditional German Christmas bread “Stollen” provided by Oma's German Delicacies; as well as nuts tart and gingerbread from The Sherwood Taipei and Sunworld Dynasty. There are also various kinds of beverages such as traditional German mulled wine “Glühwein,” wine, beer, punch, soft drinks, and ice cream provided by K & R, Bionade, Bitburger Braugruppe, HaiDing, Guter Fürst, and iL Giardino.
Aside from food and beverages, the market features several non-food products to explore, such as traditional Christmas decorative figures (e.g. cuckoo clocks), the new Audi collection by Audi Taiwan Co., organic cereals (Müsli) by Bauckhof, body care products by Kneipp, junior care and baby care products provided by Häfele Taiwan Limited, and several household appliances from Vorwerk Taiwan and German Dolphin. Dr. Darrly Liang, Managing Director of Vorwerk Taiwan emphasized the importance of Christmas for his company: “Vorwerk has always been a family-oriented company. This core concept is in direct alignment with the spirit of Christmas. We hope to participate in the Christmas Market, not only to let everyone enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and food, but also to get know more about Vorwerk through this opportunity.” Furthermore, Audi Taiwan Aftersales Director Frank Lohwasser also added: “As a German company and part of our culture we would like to celebrate together with the Taiwanese people the festive season.”
During the Christmas market, visitors can also enjoy several on-site activities. There is the chance to meet Santa Claus, enjoy lovely Christmas songs provided by Choir Bosco, shoot a mini football match, and make your own hand-made German Christmas cookies. Among the highlights are also three show cars provided by Capital Motors, Inc., a leading brand luxury car retailer that specializes in Mercedes-Benz. Mr. Andreas Binder, Managing Director of Capital Motors Inc. pointed out: “Christmas is for all Christians the most important celebration every year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the Europeans, most of the Germans, cannot travel home to their families. We want to give some Christmas feeling back to Taiwan to those people who cannot travel.”
