Prudential of Taiwan “Kiyo Golden Heart Memorial Award” Focusing on “people” and expressing love for humanity and family Support scholarship from the Pingtung branch of Taiwan Fund for Children and Families to 50 high school students

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, NOVEMBER 27th, 2019 — Prudential of Taiwan held the 2019 “Kiyo Golden Heart Memorial Award” donation ceremony today (27th), donating 10,000 USD to the Pingtung branch of Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF), the charity designated by 2019 award recipient SCLP Jessie Lee. The donation will be used to provide scholarship to 50 high school students in Pingtung area. According to POT President and CEO Sean McLaughlin, “Kiyo Golden Heart Memorial Award recognizes the field agent that represents Life Plannership the most. This Life Planner must follows high moral standards, and provides services beyond customers’ expectation.” What’s most special about the award is that the award money is not given to the recipient, but the social welfare institute or minority group designated by the recipient. The hope is that the recipient, POT as a corporate citizen, and the designated charity can work together, and act as a role model to bring public attention to the underprivileged issues.
“The word ‘people’ is referred to four times in Prudential’s Chinese name. Focusing on people and expressing love for humanity love and family have been the unchanging promise of POT in the almost 30 years it’s been in Taiwan,” said POT President and CEO Sean McLaughlin. Jessie Lee, the SCLP of the Award recipient this year, joined POT in 2004. For the past 15 years, she has held the belief of protecting people and families, and provided quality protection to every family and individual she encountered with great passion. Her 100% policy persistency rate exemplifies her professionalism. Growing up in Pingtung, Jessie has never stopped caring for her hometown. For the past decade, she continuously donated goods and second-hand clothes to the Pingtung branch of TFCF, and donated money to support the daily expenses and scholarship of children. She also actively participated in volunteering work, such as caring for elders living alone and delivering meals, contributing to the society by turning her small love into limitless big loves. McLaughlin emphasized that Jessie very much deserves the 2019 Kiyo Golden Heard Memorial Award for her Life Plannership, noble character, and professionalism.
During the donation ceremony, Jessie Lee, SCLP from POT SunShine Agency, said, “I’ve joined POT for 15 years. I believe being a Life Planner is my mission, plus doing the right thing! Insurance policy is not just a policy, but also the love and responsibility between customers and their families. Being a Life Planner is not just a job, but can also impact the lives of others!” Receiving the award out of multiple excellent Life Planners on her 15th year with POT, Jessie is elated, but also understands her responsibility is now heavier. Through her experiences in volunteering, Jessie believes as long as one tries his best, the spiritual growth and achievements attained are worth much more than the actual financial aid received. Thus after considerable assessment and consideration, she designated her award money to the Pingtung branch of TFCF, using scholarship to support 50 high school students. She hopes that through the community feedback services arranged by the scholarship project, students may be encouraged to actively expand their horizons. Some students may use what they’ve learned and do their best to contribute back to the society, learning the joy of helping others along the way.
On the donation ceremony today, Xiu-Feng Lin, Division Head of Social Resources Department, Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF), said that September of every year is the time when pupils need to pay their tuition and the other schooling expenses such as books, transportation and miscellaneous. Such expenses may be a pressing burden and stress for certain families. To safeguard children’s opportunity of education, the 2020 Summer Scholarships Program project was initiated. The project includes a requirement for the applicants from high schools and above to complete the voluntary service arranged by the TFCF, in an effort to expose them to cultural, environmental, public issues by visiting all corners of Pingtung. Prudential Spirit of Community Awards (SOC) is one of the leading charity events that POT has long been devoted to. Among the Award applicants we also often see adolescents who have been supported by TFCF giving back to the society and demonstrating exceptional results in their voluntary services. TFCF appreciates POT for the financial support and also applauded POT for its devotion and contribution to nurturing the adolescents and to creating a society of goodness.
The Pingtung branch of TFCF was founded in 1967 with a mission of "timely help, warm care, love of Christ, social work profession", with a special focus on safety and welfare for children, adolescents and families in Pingtung area. On a monthly basis, the Pingtung branch supports just over 1,100 local families, 2,300 children and adolescents, while promoting children’s and adolescents’ welfare with professional social work methodology based on the spirit of innovation and inclusiveness.
It has been 17 years since POT launched the Kiyo Golden Heart Memorial Award in Taiwan in 2002. The Award was created to commemorate Mr. Kyiofumi Sakaguchi, former President of Prudential International Insurance (PII), and to manifest his contribution to PII and the example he has set for Life Planners. In the meantime, it is also for the purpose of demonstrating POT’s sense of duty toward love for people and love for family. The award is a recognition for Life Planners who prioritize customers’ interests and provide services that exceed customers’ expectations and that are based on high ethical standards. Until 2019, POT donations to charitable and social welfare entities in Taiwan have already amounted to over US$100,000.
