relationships with the industrial, public, and academic sectors to assist in
Taiwan's industrial upgrade and solidify Taiwan's development of smart
machinery
Digital upgrade and transformation of the manufacturing sector is
the key to strengthening international competitiveness and sustainable
development. The Taiwanese government has defined "smart machinery"
as one of key sectors in the five major innovative industries project. The
Taichung City Government (TCG) is working in tandem with the establishment of
the Smart Machinery Promotion Office, which it hopes will underpin the
realization of smart manufacturing. In order to strengthen the promotion and
implementation of policy, TCG on September 7 (Friday) in the Taichung City
Precision Machinery Innovation Technology Park held the "Technology
Innovation Experimental Site Launch Forum," which brought experts from the
industrial, public, and academic sectors under one roof. Siemens Ltd., Taiwan
President and CEO Erdal Elver was invited to discuss the core topic of how to
assist enterprises in becoming more intelligent in their manufacturing
practices. He also interacted with others during discussions on how to accelerate
the development of smart manufacturing. At the same time, an opening ceremony was
held to inaugurate the Global Smart Machinery Development Center, which has
been planned by TCG, and the Intelligent Manufacturing Pilot Production Site,
which has been established by ITRI.
As a long-term trusted technology partner to Taiwan, not to mention
serving as one of the focus companies entering the Intelligent Manufacturing
Pilot Production Site, Siemens is extremely proud to be invited to attend this
event. It is also happy to share its successful experience in digital transformation
and assist Taiwan industry in digital upgrading. The long-term strategy of
Siemens has been to create a comprehensive product portfolio of digitalization
technologies. Looking back at fiscal 2017, Siemens global software and
digitalization services revenues grew 20% and the company has emerged as one of
the world's Top 10 software companies. Siemens presently employs over 25,000
professional software R&D personnel and engineers worldwide, and it
continues to strategically expand its digitalization technology. It has
developed over 250 digitalization product portfolios and is making every effort
to assist its manufacturing clients throughout the world in successfully
carrying out their digital transformation.
Working to fulfill its pledge of "Grow Taiwan Together,"
Siemens has over the years honed strong relationships with the industrial,
public, and academic sectors. It has played a key role in paving the way for
Taiwan industry to engage in smart upgrades and helping solidify Taiwan's
foundation in the development of smart machinery.

Active participation in government projects, enhancing international
competitiveness:Siemens and the TCG
signed a memorandum under which Siemens would assist the city in becoming a hub
for smart machinery, and joined the Asia Silicon Valley project, helping take
part in the digital transformation of local industries. With the support of
TCG, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and ITRI, Siemens plans investment
outlays of NT$120 million. It will establish a "Siemens’ Digitalization
Experience and R&D Center" at the Intelligent Manufacturing Pilot
Production Site in the Precision Machinery Innovation Technology Park. Siemens
will display advanced Industrie 4.0 digital manufacturing solutions and the
latest IoT technology, serving as a platform for technology interaction and
mutual learning among related organizations within Taiwan's industrial, public,
academic, and research communities.
·
Technology innovation with industry partners, jointly creating
industrial value chains: Siemens, together with leading
machine tool companies HIWIN Technologies Corp. and Fair Friend Group, signed Memorandums
of Understanding, via which Siemens digital enterprise software packages and
automation technologies are being integrated with machinery and equipment. This
constitutes concrete action in supporting the development of smart machinery.
Siemens smart manufacturing technology is also assisting Aerospace Industrial
Development Corp. in hastening the adoption of Industrie 4.0 practices by
Taiwan's aerospace sector and strengthening international competitiveness in
the aerospace industry. Leadermac Machinery Co., Ltd. and SYSTEX have
introduced MindSphere, Siemens’ cloud-based open IoT operating system. Siemens will
continue to work hand-in-hand with its local partners to create innovative
applications and an even wider range of digital services, which will further
enhance the manufacturing sector's value chain.
·
Cultivating professionals skilled in digitalization and
strengthening the technical abilities of industrial talents: Siemens emphasizes the cultivation of talent and has long engaged in
close cooperation with the government, industry, and academia on seamlessly
integrating technical knowledge with industry. For more than a decade, Siemens
has provided specialized training in Taiwan for over 10,000 teachers and
students, including sending Ministry of Labor instructors to Germany for
training, arranging Ministry of Education technical and vocational teachers to
attend industry workshops, and cooperating with the Taipei City Government's
Department of Education on an overseas skills internship project and digital
professionals cultivation project. At the same time, Siemens is strengthening
links with industry and academia, all of which are improving the international
competitiveness of trained Taiwan technicians.
Siemens possesses innovative digital enterprise concepts and
state-of-the-art digital technology for smart machinery and plants of the
future. Taiwan has outstanding abilities in the manufacturing and machinery
industries, and the strengths of Siemens and Taiwan are complementary. It is
hoped that technical interaction and integration will accelerate the transformation
of local industries and create a situation benefiting both Siemens and industry
by creating greater value.
