A
Cross-Border Spring of Hope: Stories of Six Families
At the press conference, TFC
invited six international families—including couples from Japan, Malaysia, Hong
Kong, the UK, Korea, France, and the US—shared their emotional journeys:
Case 1: A Japanese-French Couple’s Life-Changing Choice –
Keiko (Japanese) & Husband (French): At 43, Keiko’s
menstrual cycles had become irregular, and worried about approaching menopause,
she sought egg donation treatment in Taiwan, as it was not allowed in Japan. In
2019, she had six to seven embryos at another clinic, but two transfers ended
in miscarriage. Turning to TFC, she obtained three embryos in her first cycle,
which failed. Despite losing her mother during this period, she transformed her
grief into motivation. For the second transfer, she requested to view the
ultrasound, and TFC’s team provided careful, compassionate support. Ultimately,
Keiko successfully gave birth to a healthy baby. (Attending Physician: Dr.
Chii-Ruey Tzeng)
Case 2: A
Malaysian Family’s Remarkable Turnaround –
Ms. Tseng (Malaysian husband): Ms. Tseng, a mother of
two children conceived via IVF due to her advanced maternal age, naturally
conceived her third child at 42. She and her husband had long lived in Hong
Kong, but considering the high cost of fertility treatments there and Taiwan’s
higher success rates, they chose to pursue IVF in Taiwan. With an AMH of only
0.6, Ms. Tseng underwent treatment at TFC and deeply appreciated the guidance
and encouragement of Dr. Chii-Ruey Tzeng. One remark from Dr. Tzeng left a
lasting impression: “I can help with anything, except age—you need to take the
first step early.” Inspired by this, Ms. Tseng hopes her story encourages other
women facing fertility challenges to start early. Her journey has become a
source of courage for many older women. (Attending Physician: Dr. Chii-Ruey
Tzeng)
Case 3: A Hong
Kong Family’s Journey to Parenthood –
Ms. Yeh (Hong Kong husband): Ms. Yeh and her husband both work in
China and traveled between the two locations during the pandemic. Overcoming
the challenges of uterine fibroids and previous implantation failures, she
retrieved five blastocysts in 2022. After a first failed transfer and a second
cycle canceled due to poor conditions, her third transfer was finally
successful, resulting in the birth of a healthy baby at TFC. Reflecting on her
experience in Taiwan, Ms. Yip shared: “The medical team was highly professional
and attentive, and the care was gentle and humane.” She expressed deep
gratitude, noting that previous fertility setbacks do not mark the end, but the
beginning of the next success. (Attending Physician: Dr. Chii-Ruey Tzeng)
Case 4: A
British Couple’s Fertility Journey –
Michaela (British husband): Both husband and wife are from the UK.
After her husband relocated to Taiwan for work, they settled there. Michaela
had been trying to conceive for two years without success. At TFC, a single
intrauterine insemination (IUI) resulted in the birth of their first child, a
baby boy. For their second child, they pursued IVF. Michaela faced multiple
challenges, including failed pregnancy tests, polyp removal,
cancellations due to insufficient endometrial thickness or hormonal issues, and
two miscarriages. Ultimately, through embryo selection using PGT-A genetic
testing, she joyfully welcomed their second child, becoming a mother of two.
Their journey highlighted the power of combining technology and perseverance. (Attending
Physician: Dr. Yi-Xuan Lee)
Case 5: A
Korean Family’s 11 Egg Retrieval Miracle –
Ms. C (Korean husband): After marriage, Ms. C and her husband lived
apart but longed for a child of their own. Believing in Taiwan’s high success
rates, they chose to undergo IVF treatment at TFC. When selecting a clinic, Ms.
C placed great importance on the medical and embryology team’s expertise, as
well as the institution’s scale and facilities. Due to her age, she went
through 11 egg retrieval cycles to accumulate embryos. On her very first
transfer, she conceived successfully and later gave birth to a healthy baby,
showcasing the strength of Taiwan’s reproductive medicine. What touched her
most was that, even in her most difficult moments, the TFC team never gave up
on any case. (Attending Physicians: Dr. Yen-Ping Ho / Dr. Shun-Jen Tan)
Case 6: A
Chinese-American Family’s Journey of Faith –
Ally (Chinese-American husband): Traveling frequently between Taiwan
and the U.S., Ally faced the dual challenges of diminished ovarian reserve and
advanced maternal age. After six failed egg retrieval attempts at other clinics
in Taiwan, she turned to TFC, drawn by the physicians’ expertise and the
clinic’s convenient location and environment. Although her AMH had dropped to
just 1, the medical team stood by her, racing against time to retrieve more
eggs. On her very first transfer, Ally conceived successfully and finally
realized her fertility miracle. (Attending Physician: Dr. Yu-Ming Hu)

Global
Infertility Trends and Taiwan’s Competitive Edge
According to the World Health
Organization, infertility affects 17.5% of people worldwide—about one in six
individuals. In the Asia-Pacific region, the prevalence rises to 23.2%,
underscoring growing demand for reproductive services.
Taiwan’s combination of robust
regulations, expert physicians, and reasonable costs makes it a rising
destination for cross-border reproductive medicine. Government data shows that
foreign cases undergoing fertility treatments in Taiwan increased from 2.09% in
2022 to 7.86% in 2024. (Appendix Table 5) TFC, a leader in international
reproductive medicine, continually advances in research and technology,
attracting individuals from Asia, the Americas, and Europe, and positioning
Taiwan as a global hub for fertility.
Differences in costs and
regulations across countries pose significant challenges for couples seeking
reproductive treatments. When comparing reproductive medicine in the US and
Asia, IVF success rates in the United States average around 37.5%, but a single
cycle can cost NTD 450,000–1,000,000. Surrogacy policies and insurance coverage
vary by state, meaning patients often face high costs and complex regulations.
In contrast, Taiwan offers competitive success rates and more affordable treatments. The average implantation rate is 36.7%, and a treatment cycle costs NTD 180,000–240,000—less than a quarter of U.S. prices. With higher success rates compared to neighboring areas such as Hong Kong, China, and Japan, and government subsidies of up to NTD 100,000 for first-time applicants, Taiwan significantly reduces the financial burden for cross-border families.
By
comparison:
Hong Kong: Public
hospitals have strict criteria and long wait times; private clinics may charge
over NTD 600,000.
Mainland China: A
single cycle costs around NTD 150,000–250,000. Single women cannot access egg
freezing. In the meanwhile, ART and advanced procedures like PGS remain
limited.
Japan: Treatments
mainly follow low-dose or natural cycle protocols, with success rates around
12.5%, often requiring multiple attempts. Health insurance coverage, available
since 2022, is limited to married heterosexual couples.
Taiwan’s comprehensive regulatory
framework and affordable costs make it a key choice for cross-border families
seeking fertility services.
Conclusion
“Each TFC United Nations Baby is
a miracle born across borders.”
At a time when global demand for
reproductive medicine is surging, TFC continues to combine world-class medical
expertise, advanced laboratories, and compassionate cross-border services to
help families overcome infertility challenges. The success stories of
international families reflect TFC’s core values of professionalism, trust, and
companionship, while reaffirming Taiwan’s leadership in global reproductive
medicine.
Looking ahead, TFC will continue
to expand collaborations in Taiwan and worldwide, so that more stories of life
and hope can be born here.
