Taipei
Dangdai Art & Ideas, presented by UBS and organized by The Art Assembly,
opens at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center today. As an undisputed hub for
global contemporary art in the region, the Fair features world-class galleries
from around the world and with the support of major collectors and curators,
along with partners and sponsors including the Ministry of Culture, Taipei City
Government Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Indigenous Peoples Cultural
Development Center.
Robin Peckham, Taipei
Dangdai Co-Director, stated, “After six years of hard work, Taipei Dangdai has
firmly established itself on the basis of its programming as the key bridge
between Taiwan and the world of art and culture. Looking at the Fair today, it
is clear that Taiwan’s art scene is making inroads in global visibility, from
the caliber of works that Taiwanese collectors are interested in to the daring
of the projects that Taiwanese artists are sending out into the world.”
Magnus Renfrew, Taipei
Dangdai Founder and Co-Director, expressed, “We are thrilled that the art
community is coming together around Taipei Dangdai to put this group of
galleries, collectors, artists, and museums on the map. Taiwan’s collectors
continue to play an outsized role in the global art market, and Taipei Dangdai
is their home base.”
Henry Su, UBS Taiwan
Location Head and Head of Global Wealth Management Taiwan, comments: “UBS is
thrilled to once again stand as Lead Partner of Taipei Dangdai, a pivotal event
that showcases the dynamic art scene of Taiwan. Threads, this year’s presentation at the UBS Lounge, beautifully
encapsulates the intersection of craft and contemporary art, highlighting the
rich traditions that inform artistic practices today. Our commitment to
contemporary art reflects our belief in its ability to inspire dialogue and
foster connections. By supporting this vibrant platform, we celebrate
creativity, the collaborative spirit of artists, and engage audiences in
meaningful conversations. ”
Yami Chou, Ph.D.,
Director of the Department of Arts Development of the Ministry of Culture,
indicated,"This is our second year
co-hosting a special exhibition at Taipei Dangdai. We encourage visitors to
take the time to visit these installations by Taiwanese artists, and consider
the role that art and technology play in our lives.”
Keng Wei, Taipei City
Councilor, remarked, "I am
delighted that the Taipei City Government Department of Cultural Affairs is
supporting Taipei Dangdai. The fair plays a vital role in fostering both
academic and commercial exchanges between Taiwan and the international art
world, and in bringing high-quality, diverse contemporary art to the broader
public. I hope this occasion encourages the government to place greater
emphasis on the education and outreach of arts, and to support the long-term,
strategic development of contemporary visual art in Taiwan."
